New Brunswick Workers' Compensation Lawyer

Middlesex County Work Injury Attorney

Workers' compensation cases can be complex and full of delays and denials from your employer's insurance company. It is wise to retain an experienced lawyer to represent you through these negotiations to ensure you are treated fairly and to take the case through trial if negotiations fail.

I am John D. Kovac, a New Brunswick workers' compensation attorney. I have helped a great deal of injured clients, and literally wrote a book on workers' compensation that is well respected by judges and practitioners throughout the state of New Jersey. I pride myself on being able to negotiate with insurance companies and represent my clients in court if necessary.

Through my firm, the Law Office of John D. Kovac, I have helped injured clients suffering through a wide range of maladies, including:

  • All accident and occupational claims
  • Herniated disc injuries
  • Psychiatric claims (stress, bullying, harassment, depression due to injury and inadequate medical treatment, PTSD, assaults)
  • Toxic substance exposure (COPD, Cancer, etc.)
  • Repetitive motion injuries
  • Head injuries
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Heart attacks
  • Amputations
  • Shoulders, arms, legs, and hips
  • Death and dependency claims
  • Motions for Medical treatment and temporary disability benefits
  • Re-openers
  • Second Injury Fund (total disability)

For the benefit of my potential clients, I have provided articles on Understanding the Workers' Compensation System and Stress Claims as a Remedy for Workplace Bullying. There are also several important notes to make regarding workers' compensation.

  • In a workers' compensation claim, certain body parts (such as a shoulder, neck or back) are worth more in compensation than others (such as an arm, leg, foot, hand or finger).
  • If the worker passes away as a result of the injuries or illnesses sustained at work, the spouse or children are entitled to benefits. This is called a dependency petition.
  • Many injuries contain a mental trauma issue such as depression or post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Cases of depression and other psychiatric injuries are entitled to the same schedule of compensation as neck, back and shoulder injuries — which is the maximum amount allowed under the workers' compensation schedules.
  • Partial disability benefits are paid if you are able to return to work in a modified or lower-earning capacity.
  • Total disability benefits are paid if you are unable to return to work in any capacity, or if your disability limits your ability to find a job.
  • Any individual injured at work is entitled to reasonable and necessary medical treatment provided by the employer. Any injured person denied such treatment should retain counsel immediately.

In workers' comp claims you want an attorney who will fight for each and every body part. I will aggressively work to ensure your full and fair compensation through negotiation and, if necessary, trial.
