- In a workers' compensation claim, certain body parts (such as a shoulder, neck or back) are worth more in compensation than others (such as an arm, leg, foot, hand or finger).
- If the worker passes away as a result of the injuries or illnesses sustained at work, the spouse or children are entitled to benefits. This is called a dependency petition.
- Many injuries contain a mental trauma issue such as depression or post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Cases of depression and other psychiatric injuries are entitled to the same schedule of compensation as neck, back and shoulder injuries — which is the maximum amount allowed under the workers' compensation schedules.
